An annual Thanksgiving tradition of help the community began as a family affair and is now backed by an organization is coming up in Rockmart next Saturday to help families in need or individuals who won’t have a place to go on Turkey Day have an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy a community meal.

God’s Loving Angels will once again host their Annual Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, November 15 starting at 11 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. at the Nathan Dean Community Center at 604 Goodyear Avenue in Rockmart.

Alongside the traditional Thanksgiving fare for any and all to enjoy, God’s Loving Angels will additionally provide toys for youth along with clothing, blankets and canned goods to take home for those in need.

The meal and items being given away are all free to enjoy.

God’s Loving Angels additionally encourages anyone who wishes to volunteer for the event as a group to participate, and any choirs that would like to sing during the event to come out.

Those interested in more information can contact Floreace Stocks at 678-719-1981, or to help with donations of items to be given away during this year’s Thanksgiving meal.

Originally the meal began in 2008 as a way the Stocks family to give back to the community, but since has expanded with the God’s Loving Angels organization that also provide other support to the community year round.

Letters to Santa: First part of a big batch from YGES

Letterstosanta2024

What do they say when you’re in need: Ask and ye shall receive?

That’s what happened on Friday after I had waited for over a month for some more Letters to Santa to come in this year, and boy howdy did I get a haul!

This first batch of letters came in thanks to Mrs. Kirsch from Youngs Grove Elementary School. To make it easier on yours truly on the typing side of things, this year I’ve decided the easier route is to just post the letters as I received them as photos.

A second and third rounds of letters will be available through the rest of the week to ensure that Santa has no chance of missing this year’s wish lists (and timely letters of appreciation.) Note: this year’s batch included some drawings and such on the front and back of letters, so I have included both sides where applicable in the slideshow below.

You’ve got until this Friday, December 19 to finish sending your letters into polktoday@gmail.com to participate in this year’s round.

Merry Christmas to all!
