It has stormed, it has been called off by COVID. But if mother nature can’t stop two rivals from facing off to start off every season, nothing will.

The annual rivalry that is the Battle for Polk County returns to the gridiron tonight, and all week the two teams have been getting ready to face each other at The Doc for the opening of the 2025 football season.

Rival week saw the school system divided between Red and Black on the west side and Gold and Black on the east as the Cedartown Bulldogs enter a new era under head coach Tommy Atha, and the Rockmart Yellow Jackets hope to break a 4-game losing streak in the contest.

Both teams gathered on each side of the county on Thursday evening for Cedartown’s Bulldog Bash, where the Yellow Jacket got roasted on the courthouse steps.

Jacket Nation gathered at The Rock on Thursday for the Burning of the Bulldog, where Coach Biff Parson said he felt something special about his squad this season, and called for fans to pack into Cedartown High School Memorial Stadium for the big game tonight.

The Bulldogs remain the winners in the overall record between the two schools with a 54-25-2 advantage over Rockmart.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Tune in on WGAA Radio or utilize livestreaming on their Facebook, or WZOT Radio or their livestream to catch the game in progress.

Scores will be updated as soon as possible on Today Sports Wire.
