The December meeting of the Polk County Board of Elections is being moved up with the potential for a special election coming up on the books across the 14th Congressional District.
The meeting was set to be held on December 10, at 10 a.m., but has been moved up to December 3 at the same time at the County Commission meeting room at 73 Cline Ingram Jackson Road, Cedartown.
Officials are moving the meeting up in an effort to accommodate plans for the potential election to replace U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has already announced her intentions to resign from her post on January 5, 2026.
Should that continue to be the case and Greene doesn’t rescind her plan to resign, a special election would be called to be held following that, likely in mid-to-late February, to replace Greene for the remainder of her term through the end of 2026.
Midterm elections were already on the horizon, and those will continue to move forward starting with qualifying in March for the May primaries for multiple local, state and federal offices on the ballot in November 2026.
Check back for additional details as the story continues to develop through the rest of the year.
