Mr. Bobby Eugene Smith

Mr. Bobby Eugene Shirah, age 86, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2025.

Bobby, born on February 26, 1939, in Temple, Georgia, was the beloved son of the late Bunyon Eugene Shirah and Jewell Shackleford Shirah. He spent the majority of his life in Rockmart, Georgia, and was a proud graduate of Rockmart High School, Class of 1958. He was an avid supporter of Rockmart High School sports and considered by many to be their Number One Fan.

Bobby dedicated much of his professional life to retail management. He began his career with F.W. Woolworth’s as a store manager, later managing Super D’s Five & Dime Store, working at Ingles Food, and serving as the manager at Casey’s Grocery. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to serving his community.

A devoted member of the Church of God of the Union Assembly at Polk, Bobby faithfully served for more than 30 years as chairman of the deacon board, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his faith and church family.

In his personal life, Bobby was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of friends as a proud member of the Over The Hill Gang.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by a son, Nathan Floyd Shirah.

Bobby is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Ruth Benefield Shirah, whom he married July 18, 1986; sons, Stanton (Beverly) Shirah, and Marty (Miranda) Bevins; grandchildren, Marlana Pratt, Paige Shirah Orcutt, Zachary Stanton Shirah, Paizley Shirah, Cole Shirah, Taylor (Madison) Shirah, Elle Shirah, Malachi Shirah, Rainn Shirah, Makenzie Bevins, Marty (Haley) Bevins, Jr., Mirista Watts, Mileia (Samuel) Pollard, Waylon Bevins, and Mikaylin Bevins; great-grandchildren, Don Andrew Orcutt, Cruz Holtsclaw, Khaza Elkins, Zaylon Shirah, Maelynn Bevins, Mercii Shirah, Baker Shirah, and Cohen Jones. Two sisters, Ovaline Shirah Arp and Linda Annette Shirah Ivey, along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Bobby will be held on Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Church of God of the Union Assembly at Polk with Rev. Jesse Starnes and Rev. Houston Eaton officiating. Interment will follow in Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

Bobby’s family will receive friends Saturday evening, July 12, 2025, at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will include Zachary Shirah, Cole Shirah, Taylor Shirah, Marty Bevins, Jr., Waylon Bevins, Malachi Shirah, Rainn Shirah, and Cody Tibbetts. Honorary pallbearers will include Andres Lopez, Keith Lentz, Jay Crider, Samuel Pollard, and Cam Jones.

Mr. Alan Dale “Al” Statham

Mr. Alan Dale “Al” Statham, age 64, of Aragon, GA passed away Friday afternoon, February 6, 2026.

Al was born in Rome, GA on July 24, 1961, to the late Billy Statham and Margaret Mitchell Statham. He spent his entire life in Polk County and was a graduate of Rockmart High School, Class of 1979.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing softball, but most of all, his greatest joy was watching his granddaughter play softball. He had his special place at the end of his fence where he loved watching Kiley play. He also enjoyed shooting pool with Braidyn and loved working outside.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his nephew, Seth Hitchcock.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kris Statham, to whom he married on March 20, 1982; his daughter, Hannah (Corey) Price; 3 grandchildren, Kiley Statham, Braidyn Statham, and Brian Bowman; his brothers, Phil (Loye) Statham, Mickey (Jerri) Statham; and his sister, Patricia (Eldon) Watts. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Statham will be Monday, February 9, 2026 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Jones officiating and eulogies given by Kiley Statham, Braiden Statham, and Mark Gray.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home.
