Carolyn Ann Garner Braswell, age 78 of Rockmart, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Redmond Hospital. She was born October 15, 1947, to the late Robert Parker Garner and Lola Thompson Garner.
Carolyn graduated from Rockmart High School in 1966 and later from Berry College in 1973 with a degree in Elementary Education. In addition, she received a Masters of Education from West Georgia. Carolyn was a beloved teacher at Goodyear Elementary for over 30 years. She often used her homemade cakes, cookies, and pies as motivation for her students.
Not only did Carolyn touch countless students’ lives throughout her teaching career, but she was a favored aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. They all looked forward to trick-or-treating at her house to get a homemade chocolate pie. Carolyn spent the last several years of her life assisting with the care of her sister, Bobbie before her own health began to decline. She was an avid lover of cats and dogs, and she fostered any that were brought to her over the years. Carolyn was a member of the Rockmart 2nd Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Frederick Braswell (Skeeter), on April 26, 2005. Carolyn was a wonderful caregiver to Skeeter while he suffered from cancer. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sister, Bobbi Jane Barnes and a nephew, Mark Barnes.

Mrs. Braswell is survived by her brother Robert Garner (Kay), a sister- in-law, Mary Jane Albea, nephews and nieces: Andy and Barry Barnes, Bob Garner (Jennifer), April Garner, Sam Albea (Cathy), Amanda Fricks (Phil), David Barnes and Janie Barnes.
Carolyn was a wonderful friend and a blessing to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Memorial services for Mrs. Braswell will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home.
