Mrs. Carolyn Louise Bankston, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. Born on September 24, 1934, she lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service to others.
Carolyn was the beloved wife of the late Virgil Bankston, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Together, they raised five children: Virginia Carol Bankston, Linda Bankston, Vanessa Coleman, Katrina Jarrard, and Scott Bankston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Bankston; all five of her children; her granddaughter, Shea Brown; and her great-great-grandson, Tyler Brown.
She is survived by her sister, Jane Bobo, her granddaughters, Shannon Wooldridge (Brandon Wooldridge) and Sheena Brown, along with four great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride.
Carolyn dedicated over 50 years of her life to the restaurant industry. Alongside her husband, she owned and operated two well-known dining establishments in Northwest Georgia during the 1980s and 1990s: The Burnt Hickory Catfish School in Dallas, Georgia, and the widely beloved Virgil’s Place in Cedartown, Georgia. Through these businesses, she not only served meals but built lasting relationships and a strong sense of community.
A devout Baptist, Carolyn never missed an opportunity to share God’s word and spread His love. Her faith was the foundation of her life and a guiding light to all who knew her.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially reading, tending to her plants, and celebrating Christmas—her favorite time of year, which she filled with warmth, generosity, and love.
Carolyn will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her nurturing spirit, and the deep love she gave so freely to her family and community. Her legacy will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
