The Rockmart Police Department are helping to ensure local youth who would otherwise go without have a happy holiday when they wake up on Christmas morning as their Christmas is for Kids program returns for 2025.

Applications to be able to participate will be open until November 10 at 4 p.m., when the enrollment period will end. Those who want the chance to participate must apply in person at the Police Department.

Parents wishing to apply for their children to participate are limited to those who are between the ages of 2 and 12. Rockmart Police ask that parents bring the name and age of each child they are enrolling in this year’s Christmas is for Kids program when they come to the Rockmart Police Department offices to apply.

The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, located at the J.L. Ellis City of Rockmart Government Complex on North Piedmont Avenue to accept applications.

Proof of residency within the City of Rockmart and guardianship is required to be considered for the program. A photo ID or mail that includes the most recent address will suffice as proof for the Police Department.

Applicants outside of Rockmart’s city limits will be considered, but Rockmart residents will have the opportunity to participate first.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s annual Toys Express program is also available for residents whose applications aren’t accepted for this year’s program.

Donations to help the program are also accepted from both agencies.

Aragon Council holding special called meeting on Thursday

The City of Aragon is planning on purchasing some new gear, if the City Council goes along with the plan.

Mayor Judd Fee reported that the city plans to hold a 4 p.m. special called session on Thursday, January 22, to decide on the purchase of two police vehicles and a used fire truck.

Fee reported that the truck in question is being purchased from the City of Braswell for a specific task, and not to fight fires.

Instead, it’ll be a truck utilized by Public Works for the high pressure water system on the truck to clear out drains and in other areas of use where a lot of water for specific tasks.

No additional agenda items are up for discussions or decision.

Check back for more on the purchases as the information becomes available.
