The Polk County Commission is taking applications from District 1 residents to determine who will serve out the rest of the term left following the passing of Commissioner Gary Martin last week.
County officials noted in a release this morning that applications in the form of a letter of intent and a resume must be turned into the County Clerk by Wednesday, November 5 at close of business for the day at 5 p.m.
The letter and resume can be dropped off at the County Administration offices at 216 Main St. in downtown Cedartown, or send an email to jarmstrong@polkga.org.

A forum where commissioners will be interviewing potential candidates for appointment will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the County Commission meeting room at the Polk County Police Department at 73 Cline Ingram Jackson Road, Cedartown.
The District 1 area covers most of the north and west side of Polk County and the north half of the Cedartown City Limits divided by a line at Canal Street through downtown and up to East Avenue.
This mirrors the process used in past appointments made to fill unexpired terms. Former Commissioner Jordan Hubbard was the last selected through this process to fill the unexpired term left for Commissioner Scotty Tillery following his passing in January 2024.
Commissioners will have to decide within 60 days after the seat becomes open who will fill the seat.
