United Fund Announces Sale of Building to Expand Services and Increase Community Impact

United Fund has announced the sale of its building as part of a strategic move to expand services for local families, strengthen long-term sustainability, and ensure that more donor contributions go directly toward essential community programs.

The decision follows a year long in-depth evaluation of the organization’s operational needs and its commitment to responsible stewardship of funds. The transition out of building ownership allows the organization to significantly reduce overhead costs and redirect resources toward programs that provide food assistance, clothing support, and other vital services to families throughout the community.

“This is a major step forward for our organization and the people we serve,” said Rhonda Heuer, Board Co-chair. “Selling the building allows us to focus our efforts where they matter most—supporting families in need—and we know that their needs are growing every day. Every dollar we save in operational expenses is a dollar that can go directly toward services that make a real difference.”

Community champion Jordan Hubbard purchased the property and will lease it back to United Fund, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery and enabling future facility improvements.

“I see this as an opportunity to partner with the wonderful work already happening at United Fund,” Hubbard said. “I am proud to help increase their ability to continually serve families, veterans, and those in need in our community and will begin property improvements in 2026, so come by 445 S College Street in Cedartown to stay updated on their exciting changes.”

The transition also positions the organization for long-term stability. Without the financial burden of building maintenance and capital repairs, the nonprofit can expand its service capacity, invest in program improvements, and pursue new partnerships that strengthen community support efforts for many years to come.

“Donors trust us to use their contributions wisely,” said Dianne Guy, Co-Chair. “This move helps ensure that funding is used efficiently and effectively, with maximum impact on the families who rely on us.”

During the transition, the organization will continue operating without interruption. Plans are underway to ensure continuity of support for all current and future clients.

United Fund has served the Cedartown community since 1960 and remains committed to meeting the growing needs of local families.

Shannon Goodson has been driving tow trucks for a long, long time. Nearly two decades of experience have given him about every chance to see vehicles stuck in strange places and simple jobs like hauling broken down wheels to the shop from a driveway.

Now he’s taking all that experience and going out on his own with the help of his family as he opened 4 Good Towing & Recovery for business in recent weeks.

Goodson, who with the help of his wife Lydia is operating the new business as a way to continue growing their family. She does a lot of the talking in the family, including about the couple’s goals for 4 Good Towing & Recovery.

“So 4 Good Towing was named naturally because we have 4 kids. Now that they are almost all grown we decided to raise something else, a business!” Lydia Goodson said. “We are building a future for our children and grandchild, one tow at a time.”

The duo has long been involved in the community in a variety of ways. Lydia continues her role at the Sheriff’s Office leading the Polk Re-Entry Program in the jail. Their kids have been involved in Rockmart sports, their time devoted to making the whole of Polk County a better place.

They hope the new business is among those opportunities to help the community with their services.

The towing business based in Rockmart provides towing, recovery and lockout services to drivers who are in need of help, and are available 24/7 for roadside assistance.
