Dorothy “Dottie” Benefield

Dorothy Beatrice “Dottie” Benefield passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2022 surrounded by her family.

She was born March 19, 1943 to Marvin and Ruth Canada in Rome, Georgia.

Dottie is survived by her husband, J.R. (Butch) Benefield and their daughter, Lacey Candace Benefield. Her surviving family also includes her sisters, Rebekah (Janson) Davis of Merritt Island, Florida and Gloria Astin of Rome, Georgia, and her nieces and nephew – Melissa, Christopher, Canada, Trey and Kelber. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Ruth Canada of Cedartown, Georgia and her beloved brother, Marvin Eugene (Gene) Canada, Jr. of Merritt Island, Florida.

Dottie worked for many years at the Commercial National Bank of Cedartown before retiring. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Cedartown. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dottie’s family will receive friends at Smith & Miller Funeral Home on Friday from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Graveside and interment services will be held Friday afternoon, November 4, 2022, at 2 p.m. in Northview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Stroke Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Dottie’s memory.
