Mr. Elena Vallejo Baldwin

Mrs. Elena Vallejo Baldwin, age 93, of Yulee, FL, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

Born on December 29, 1931, in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, Elena was the cherished daughter of Luis Vallejo and Adela Sanchez. From a young age, she showed a bright mind, a deep curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to learning—qualities that led her to pursue her education at the University of Puerto Rico.

Elena began her professional life in service to her country, working as an Executive Secretary for the U.S. Army at Fort Buchanan. In the 1950s, she answered a job posting in Heidelberg, Germany, and—demonstrating her characteristic independence and courage—traveled alone by ship across the Atlantic to accept the position.

While working in Patrick Henry Village, a chance encounter forever changed her life. There she met James A. (“Jim”) Baldwin, whom she married on May 25, 1957, in Heidelberg. They celebrated their wedding with a honeymoon in Spain, the perfect beginning to a marriage defined by love, partnership, and adventure.

Upon returning to the United States, Elena and Jim settled in Georgia, where she continued her career in service to multiple government agencies, including the IRS. She later joined the American Bible Society, where her bilingual fluency in Spanish and English became an invaluable resource. A woman of profound faith, she once quietly carried a Bible into Saudi Arabia—fully aware of the risks—guided by her conviction and inner strength.

Elena embraced life with joy, grace, and spirit. She loved music and dancing, delighted in baseball, and good-naturedly endured her family’s devotion to football—especially Georgia Tech. In her school years, she also enjoyed playing volleyball.

Her life with Jim took her across the world, with residences in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Seoul, South Korea, and countless travels in between. Wherever she lived, Elena brought warmth, faith, and a welcoming spirit, creating a sense of home for all who knew her.

Elena is survived by her daughter, Mari-Elena, and son-in-law, Karel Van Der Linden; her grandchildren, Kareline (John Oduber), Alex, and Brandon Van Der Linden; and her great-grandchildren, Jake and Adam Oduber. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband, Jim.

Funeral services for Elena will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Rockmart First Methodist Church with Pastor Jonathan Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Alex Van Der Linden, Brandon Van Der Linden, and Samuel Albea.

Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Elena Vallejo Baldwin.
