Ferst Readers to celebrate 100,000 books on Feb. 7

Make sure to save the date to celebrate a big milestone for Ferst Readers of Polk County.

They are celebrating the 100,000th book they’ve distributed free to youth through their early years across the county, part of an ongoing effort to increase childhood literacy.

Ferst Readers event is open to the public and coming up on Saturday, February 7 at the Polk County Historical Society’s museum at 117 West Ave., Cedartown.

This year’s event includes giveaways and door prizes, plus crafts and games for youth and refreshments throughout the event.

It is set to run from 2 to 4 p.m. in downtown Cedartown.

Juried Art Show reception coming up on Saturday evening

The Rockmart Art Gallery will be hosting a postponed early evening event on Saturday celebrating local artists for a 2026 show.

The Juried Art Show exhibit that began earlier in the year continue through March 12 at the Rockmart Art Gallery, but those who entered and patrons of the arts will get a chance to mingle and receive honors during this year’s Juried Show Reception on Feb. 7.

The gallery will be open for extended hours on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m., including refreshments and an awards ceremony as the event winds down. The event is free for all to attend and enjoy. The event was originally scheduled for January 31, but was pushed back due to the weather.

Musicians will also be on hand during the event entertaining guests to the gallery.

The show will remain on display until mid-March, and those wanting to go check it out along with taking a trip the Gallery Gift Shop filled with items from local artists participating in the show can do so Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The gallery is closed on Friday and Sunday.
