Mr. Franklin Smith

Mr. Franklin Smith, age 86, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away September 21, 2024.

Mr. Smith was born April 21, 1938, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Gus Smith and Cynthia Smith. He was a long-time employee for the City of Rome Transit Department.

Then after retiring, he remained very active, running track and lifting weights until his early 70’s.

He loved working in the garden and raising fresh chickens. He was an avid sports fan, always supporting the Atlanta Braves. 

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dwight Smith, Perry Smith, Bernice Bannister, and Frances Smith; and daughter in law, Cathy Smith. 

Franklin is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Cooley Smith; sons, Don Smith, and Davy Smith; two grandchildren, Brittany Jones, and Andrea Smith; and two great-grandchildren: Coby Jones, and Adam Jones, Jr. 

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with Reverend Doyle Kelley officiating and interment to follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Rome, Georgia. 

The family will receive friends Thursday, September, 26 2024, from noon until 1:00 PM at Smit & Miller Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnny “Mike” Whitfield

Mr. Johnny “Mike” Whitfield, age 77, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026.  

He was born on March 27, 1948. He was the son of the late John Parker Whitfield and Edith Ann Whitfield Willingham. 

Mr. Whitfield is survived by his son, Brian Whitfield and several other extended family members. 

Mr. Whitfield is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Renee Willingham Whitfield and brother, Howard Glenn Whitfield. 

A graveside service for Mr. Whitfield will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the family lot in Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Danny Tucker officiating.
