Mr. James Franklin “Frank” Cook

Mr. James Franklin “Frank” Cook, age 80, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2023, in a Rome, GA, hospital.

Frank was born in Rockmart on April 2, 1943, son of the late Grover Cook and Willine Baldwin Cook.

He had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart and retired from Georgia Power Company. Frank was a proud veteran of the United States Army and a member of Victory Baptist Church.

He was a youth sports coach, umpire, and an avid sports fan, especially of the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Brock and Nancy Brooks.

Frank is survived by his children, Kirk (Beth) Cook of Douglasville, GA, and Kay Cook of Rockmart.

Funeral services for Frank will be held Monday afternoon, November 20, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Snapp officiating. Family and friends will deliver eulogies. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of Military Graveside Rites.

Frank’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Jerome Bowman, Truett Bowman, Eli Bowman, Russell Popham, Mike Moore, and Will Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Rockmart Little League or the charity of your choice.

Mrs. Shirley Wilkes Timms

Mrs. Shirley Wilkes Timms, age 78, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Mrs. Timms was born May 20, 1947, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Benjamin Franklin Wilkes and Dolly Hardeman Wilkes.

Mrs. Timms loved sightseeing on road trips and especially cherished her visits to the beach. She adored her dog, Cooper, and found joy in spending time outdoors, tending to her flower garden or relaxing with a good book. She also enjoyed antiquing, always on the lookout for a special treasure.

She was a caring nurse and took great pride in looking after her residents at Cedar Springs Nursing Home, treating each one with kindness and compassion. A devoted Christian, she loved serving the Lord at Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church. Above all, she deeply loved her family, especially the time she shared with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Timms is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. James “Buddy” Timms.

Mrs. Timms is survived by her children: Deborah Romine (Dwayne), Lisa Jones (Jon), Janie Jacobs (Dustin), Cindy Pierce (Cristian), Kenneth Timms (Teresa), Scott Timms (Lynn), Lynn Timms, Heather Stout (Johnathon), Robert “Bobby” Stout, and Pedro Garcia; grandchildren: Brittany Tinsley (Kelly), Benji Garcia (Kayla Guttery), Cissy Fenley (Jason), Nesi Garcia, Daniel Jones (Melana), and Chloe Jones; twenty greatgrandchildren; several great-greatgrandchildren; sister, Mary Davis; special niece, Sonya Bollen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services to honor her life will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, at 6:00 PM, at Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Terry Sims and Brother Blake Sargent officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 3:00 PM until the service begins.

The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Shirley Wilkes Timms.
