Mr. James Mitchel Norton

Mr. James Mitchel Norton, age 65, of Centre, AL, passed away February 28, 2026.

Mr. Norton was born November 1, 1960, the son of the late Harvey Jewell Norton and the late Ann Hudgens Norton.

Mr. Norton was a dedicated member of Little Cedar Baptist Church. His faith and devotion to the Word of God made him a beacon of light for his family. He instilled a love in his family that went beyond words. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and spending time on the lake. He loved animals and tended many of his own, including goats, chickens, and dogs. He especially loved his chihuahua, Star.

He was also an avid fan of western movies, especially John Wayne. His hours were spent no better than driving around and enjoying his time outdoors, woodworking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Norton is preceded in death by his special son, Christopher Norton; brother, Kenneth Norton; grandchildren, Lakira, Braylin, Brendan, Baby Davenport, and Baby Stephens; mother- and father-in-law, Joni and Jackson Forrister; sister-in-law, Rhonda Norton; niece and nephews, Kimberly Norton, Shane Norton, and Jeffrey Norton.

Mr. Norton is survived by his beloved wife, Heather Forrister; children, Justin Norton (Crystal), Ronald Stephens, III (Olivia), Jonathan Stephens, Lesa Davenport (William), Shae Norton, and Millie Stephens (Tyler); brother, Ricky Norton; special brother, Joey Pruitt; and grandchildren, Taylor, Cinco, Ashton, Auston, James, Aleyna, Hazel, Hunter, and Abby.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Norton will be cremated and a memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Mrs. Janice Dean Reed

Mrs. Janice Dean Reed, age 68, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026.

Janice was born in Chicago, IL, on June 10, 1957, a daughter of the late James Howard Jorden and Wilma Mae Minor Jorden.

She had lived the greater part of her life in the Yorkville community and was of the Baptist faith. Janice was a devoted housewife and homemaker and was also a skilled carpenter who enjoyed building many things out of wood, including furniture. She loved fishing, camping, sewing, and crocheting, and she also had a green thumb and took great pride in caring for her plants and flowers.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Higgins and Bonita Penland.

Janice is survived by her husband, Benjamin L. Reed, Sr., whom she married March 16, 1974; two sons, Benjamin L. Reed, Jr. (Selena), and Paul Eric Reed (Melissa); grandchildren, Jorden R. Reed, Julianne Reed, and Jackson Reed; sister, Patricia Karen Reynolds; brother, James R. Jorden.

Funeral services for Janice will be held on Monday afternoon, March 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Butler and Rev. Jerry Reeves officiating.

Janice’s family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
