John Andrew “Lamar” Coats

Mr. John Andrew “Lamar” Coats, age 84, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023.

Lamar was born in the Fish Creek Community of Polk County, GA on October 30, 1938, a son of the late Leonard Lee Coats and Inola Alsobrooke Coats.

He graduated from Rockmart High School and enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for four years. After leaving the service, Lamar stayed in California for a period of time where he offered his services as a barber.

He came back to Rockmart in 1978 to open his own barber shop then later was the owner and operator of a local video store. Lamar enjoyed playing pool and singing karaoke and was always up for a trip fishing. He was the last living child of thirteen children.

Lamar is survived by his children, Lori (Phil) Blissitt of Aragon, GA, Teri Horton of Cedartown, GA, Waylyn (Hailey Hill) Coats of Cedartown, and Missy Herr of West Virginia; four grandchildren, Ethan Blair, Andrew Collum, Cory Horton, and Steven Camp; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden Blair, Kirra Blair, Rowan Blair, Keaton Blair, Taylor Camp, Eli Camp, Adelyn Camp and Gabbi Horton. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

A Gathering of Friends for Lamar will be held on Tuesday evening, October 3, 2023, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Alan Dale “Al” Statham

Mr. Alan Dale “Al” Statham, age 64, of Aragon, GA passed away Friday afternoon, February 6, 2026.

Al was born in Rome, GA on July 24, 1961, to the late Billy Statham and Margaret Mitchell Statham. He spent his entire life in Polk County and was a graduate of Rockmart High School, Class of 1979.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing softball, but most of all, his greatest joy was watching his granddaughter play softball. He had his special place at the end of his fence where he loved watching Kiley play. He also enjoyed shooting pool with Braidyn and loved working outside.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his nephew, Seth Hitchcock.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Kris Statham, to whom he married on March 20, 1982; his daughter, Hannah (Corey) Price; 3 grandchildren, Kiley Statham, Braidyn Statham, and Brian Bowman; his brothers, Phil (Loye) Statham, Mickey (Jerri) Statham; and his sister, Patricia (Eldon) Watts. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Statham will be Monday, February 9, 2026 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Jones officiating and eulogies given by Kiley Statham, Braiden Statham, and Mark Gray.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home.
