Mr. John “Ricky” Derrick Lankford Sr., age 81, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024. He was born on December 16, 1942 in Rome, Georgia. He was the son of the late John Henry Lankford and Lucille Worsham Lankford.
Mr. Lankford is survived by his daughter; Ginger Lankford Slaughter (Jason); sons, John Derrick Lankford Jr. and Tod Lankford (Phyllis); sisters, Linda Tanner and Sandy Horton (Bobby); grandchildren, Tyler Lankford, Janson Slaughter (Maggie), Jaydon Slaughter, Katie Slaughter, and Ansley Slaughter; and great-grandson Layton Lankford. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members also survive.
Mr. Lankford is preceeded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 31 years, Barbara Ann Ploof Lankford; and sister, Jean Orebaugh.
Funeral services for Mr. John Derrick “Ricky” Lankford Sr. will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at two o’clock in the afternoon in the sanctuary of the Lime Branch Baptist Church, located at 1127 Tallapoosa HWY, Cedartown, Georgia 30125.

Reverend Jason Slaughter and Reverend Brian Crisp will officiate with musical selections provided by the Lime Branch Baptist Church Choir. Visitation will be held from one o’clock in the afternoon until the service hour at the church.
Interment will follow in the family plot of the Lime Branch Baptist Church Cemetery; with Tyler Lankford, Janson Slaughter, Jaydon Slaughter, Greg Orebaugh, Alex Orebaugh and Luke Orebaugh serving as pallbearers. Layton Lankford will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
