Mr. John Larry Cantrell

Mr. John Larry Cantrell, age 74, of Cedartown, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Mr. Cantrell was born September 24, 1950, in Marrietta, Georgia, son of the late Walter “Walt” Cantrell and Mary Latmer Cantrell. 

In his younger years, Mr. Cantrell was a standout basketball player at Sprayberry High School. He proudly served our country as a member of the Georgia National Guard.  

He retired after an accomplished career of twenty seven years as a firefighter in Cobb County. After retirement, Mr. Cantrell would then go on to drive a bus in Cobb County. He was always up for time on the golf course.

Mr. Cantrell was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. More than anything, Mr. Cantrell loved the Lord and served Him with his life. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cantrell was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Howell Cantrell, Robert Cantrell, and Danny Cantrell; and sisters, Jane Osborne, Ann Cantrell, Betty Carnes, and Mimi Rickman. 

He is survived by his loving wife of fourty five years, Mrs. Karen Waddleton Cantrell; sons, Chris Cantrell, Jason Cantrell and his wife, Stacey, Matthew Cantrell, and Chris Cantrell and his wife, Courtney; dearly loved grandchildren, Chase Cantrell, Mikayla Cantrell, Zura Cantrell, Allesandra Cantrell, Avery Cantrell, Julianna Cantrell, and Logan Cantrell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Glenn Davis, Jr. officiating. 

Mr. Cantrell’s family will receive friends, also on Sunday, at Smith & Miller Funeral Home, from 2:00 PM until the service hour.

Mr. Wayne McClelland

Mr. Wayne McClelland, age 75, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Mr. McClelland was born December 27, 1950, in Granite City, Illinois, son of Darwin Mueller and Lorene Woodard Mueller.

Mr. McClelland proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. His service fostered a lifelong commitment to supporting fellow veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs, where he served disabled veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he advocated for veterans’ rights.

Mr. McClelland was passionate about his family and those who called him “Poppy.” He cherished his family and treasured every moment spent with them. Professionally, Mr. McClelland worked as an Oil Factory Blender for Troco Oil. Beyond his career, he enjoyed both woodworking and leatherworking as a hobby. He enjoyed old music and had a fondness for antique shopping.

In addition to his parents, Mr. McClelland is preceded in death by his wife, Vicki Miller McClelland; son, Jason Michael McClelland; and daughter, Courtney Owens (Eric).

Mr. McClelland is survived by his daughters, Brandi Azlin (John), and Sonni Kendall; grandchildren: Hannah Long (Vance), Haylee Griffin (Drew), Lemual Azlin (Brooke), Whitney Azlin, Sadie Burgess, Chase Burgess, Legend Owens, Journey Owens, Shooter Owens, Maverick Owens, Courtney Minter (Guy), Katie Minter (Landon), Cody Minter (Emily), and Bo Minter (Tori); great-grandchildren: Rhylee, Sawyer, Walker, Wade, Khalyla, Sophia, Ronan, Remington, Ben, Jessie, Johnny, Jackson, Heath, Slade, Mollie, Luke, and Millie; siblings: Roger Mueller (Michelle), Gary McClelland (Carol), and Brenda Underwood; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 4:00 PM, at Smith & Miller Funeral Home.
