Mrs. Joyce Hayes Sigers

Mrs. Catherine Joyce Hayes Sigers, age 95, of Rockmart, Georgia, passed away on October 6, 2025. She was born on December 30, 1929, in Florence, Alabama to the late Floyd Earl Hayes and Lois Florence Cofield Hayes.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otis E Sigers, Sr.; her 3 brothers, Glen T. Hayes, Cecil Hayes, and Jack Hayes; and 1 sister, Alene Hayes Roberson.

Joyce learned hard work from an early age. She oversaw taking care of house chores while her parents worked in a cotton mill, she looked after her two younger brothers, Cecil and Jack, she washed clothes on a rub board, and she even helped her Daddy pick cotton. She also loved cooking and learned how to do so from an early age.

Attending Cedartown High School, Joyce was active in the CHS Marching Band playing the trombone. She was part of the graduating class of 1947. After high school, she started her working career with the Commercial National Bank in Cedartown as a teller.

On November 5, 1949, Joyce married the love of her life, Otis E. Sigers Sr. They were together as one for almost 64 years before his death on October 20, 2013. After their first child was born, Joyce decided to quit her bank job and become a full-time mother, housewife, and homemaker. What a great job she accomplished with that decision, having 4 children in total.

As the years went by, she perfected her cooking skills, learning new techniques from her mother-in-law, Ms. Estelle Sigers. Joyce had some special dinners she prepared for her family, especially her southern cornbread dressing for Thanksgiving, and her collard greens, blackeye peas, and cornbread for New Year’s Day.

Joyce is survived by her 4 children, Heather Thomas (Danny) of Cedartown, Eugene Sigers (Vickie) of Rockmart, Michael Sigers of Rockmart, and Shirley Sigers of Rockmart; 4 grandchildren, Allison Morgan, Chad Thomas (Katrina), Kristen Rivier (Andre’), and Amberly Elrod (Matt); 11 great-grandchildren, Paige Popham (John), Ahren Thomas (Josh), Britt Morgan, Hannah Rivier, Emme Grace Elrod, Claire Rivier, Adysan Thomas, Ava Jiminez, Elee Ana Elrod, Luke Rivier, and Aksel Thomas; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Popham, Lizzie Popham, Phoebe Popham, and Cain Morgan; 1 sister-in-law, Debbie Hayes; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

Loreta Avalee Gilbreath Wheeler Mullins

Loreta Avalee Gilbreath Wheeler Mullins, age 93, peacefully entered her Heavenly home on January 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Avalee was born in Lindale, Georgia, where she was raised and spent most of her life before later moving to Rockmart, Georgia. A woman of remarkable strength and determination, she was a hard worker who took great pride in her career at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Avalee was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church of Rockmart, where she faithfully served through the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), the Rainbow Club, the Ladies’ Sunday School Class, and the church choir. She also enjoyed fellowship with the Golden Age Group at First Baptist Church of Rockmart. Her love for the Lord was evident not only in her faithful church service, but in the way she lived—reading her Bible daily, serving others selflessly, and sharing her strong, unwavering faith with those around her.

Avalee embraced life fully. She loved sewing, cross-stitching, cooking for her family and others—especially through her church repast and fellowship team—traveling, bowling with her team, and spending cherished time with those she loved. Known for her sass, honesty, humor, and strength as solid as steel, she was also deeply loving, fiercely loyal, and deeply faithful to her Lord and Savior.

She was preceded in death by her first love and beloved husband, Bill Wheeler, and their two precious infants, William and Deborah. Avalee often said that after this great loss, God blessed her with a new family when she married L.C. “Kayo” Mullins, Jr., who also preceded her in death. Through that union, she lovingly gained two daughters and a family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren she adored, a blessing she treasured deeply and thanked God for often.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lois Elizabeth Wood Gilbreath and Joseph Leroy Gilbreath; her siblings, Mary Roberson, Louise Rush, Jean Roberson, Bonnie Sorrells, Thurman Gilbreath, Brenda Edwards, Buford Gilbreath, Joyce Byrd, and Doris Spoon; and her nieces, Nina Fennell and Frances Fennell.
