Katherine “Kathy” Virginia Willingham Pryor Stroud

Katherine “Kathy” Virginia Willingham Pryor Stroud, known to many as “Mama Stroud”, went home to be with our Lord at the remarkable age of 100 on November 12, 2024, in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Born on October 21, 1924 in Cedartown, Georgia to the late Lula Jane and George Jackson Willingham, Kathy lived a full and rich life marked by resilience, warmth, and an unwavering love for family.

In her earlier years, Kathy’s dedication and strength led her to complete her GED and take on diverse roles as a riveter, office secretary, and illustrator. Ultimately she retired from Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in Marietta, Ga.

After her retirement, she and her husband, Lake, settled in Blairsville, Ga., where Kathy was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, she joyfully sang in the choir, served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Stars, and enjoyed square dancing. Following Lake’s passing, she moved to the bay area of St. Petersburg, Fl., where she found peace in dolphin watching, working through complex puzzles, playing mahjong, and enjoying lively card games with friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Lake Stroud; her parents; 13 siblings; son, William Rexford Pryor; and grandsons, David Hughes, Billy Stroud, and Tommy Stroud.

Kathy is survived by her daughter, Jean Hughes; sons, Roger Pryor (Dianne), Dr. Gary Pryor (Cynthia), and Joel Pryor; stepson, Bill Stroud; and stepdaughters, Peggy Stroud and Barbara Payne. Kathy was also cherished by her 19 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In a beautiful full-circle moment, Kathy’s legacy continues in her birthplace of Cedartown, Ga., where her granddaughter Heather Pryor M.D., now serves the community as a doctor. Heather’s work honors Kathy’s remarkable spirit and dedication, carrying on the values that defined her life.
