Mr. Marvin Gary Simmons, age 74, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Sunday morning, December 22, 2024, at his residence.
Gary was born in LaFayette, GA, on December 19, 1950, a son of the late Marshall C. Simmons and Evie Denson Simmons.
He lived his childhood years in Floyd County and had been a resident of Rockmart for over 30 years. Gary was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States National Guard.
Gary spent 44 years in law enforcement, working with Floyd County Police Department, Rockmart Police Department, Polk County Police Department and retired from Polk County Sheriff’s Department as a Captain.
He enjoyed fishing, and was a cowboy who loved horses, rodeos and was a former roper. Gary had a love for children and cherished his family.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Simmons, and a niece, Gina Rebecca Dudley.
Gary is survived by a sister, Marsha (Jimmie) Dudley; brother, Greg (Danita) Simmons; sister, Myra Simmons; son, Mitchell LeGrande; sister-in-law, Laura Simmons; special friend, Susan Hyde. Several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Gary will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Victory Baptist Church with Dr. Phillip May officiating. Eulogies will be delivered by Sheriff Johnny Moates and Retired Chief Kenny Dodd. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery of Rome.
Gary’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Larry Haney, Mike Haney, Robin Brooks, Ricky Coker, Mark Northall, Glenn Sorrells, Dudley Bourne, and Bubba Oubre. Honorary pallbearers will include Phil Thomason, Mark McDaniel, Jay LeGrande and members of area Law Enforcement agencies.
