Miriam Wood Harper

Mrs. Miriam Wood Harper, age 82, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, August 30, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Harper was born in Cedartown, GA, on February 6, 1940, daughter of the late Fredrick William Wood and Bonnie Glenn Wood.

She grew up in Rockmart and was a 1958 graduate of Rockmart High School. Mrs. Harper was married on April 19, 1958, to Thomas Glenn Harper and lived with him in El Paso, TX, while he was in the Army.

They moved to Rome, GA, in the early 1960’s, lived for a period of time in Cave Spring and eventually returned to Rockmart in 2008. Mrs. Harper was a former member and organist for Community Chapel Baptist Church in Rome and a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church.

For a number of years, she was a school bus driver for Floyd County Schools. Mrs. Harper loved animals and was an excellent mother and homemaker who loved her family.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Harper, on February 18, 2016, and two sisters, Adora Wood Mills Powers, and Bonnie Phillips.

Mrs. Harper is survived by three children, James Timothy (Debbie) Harper, Mark Rodney Harper, and Cindy Harper; three grandchildren, Travis (Kadi) Sprayberry, Zachery Glenn Harper, and Kaley (Doug) Dover; six great-grandchildren, Lindsey Harper, Kamree Dover, Keslee Dover, Kali Burdick, Daxten Burdick, and Liam Sprayberry. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. Harper will be Thursday afternoon, September 1, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens of Rome with Rev. Jason Purser officiating.

Mrs. Harper’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Mrs. Janice Dean Reed

Mrs. Janice Dean Reed, age 68, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026.

Janice was born in Chicago, IL, on June 10, 1957, a daughter of the late James Howard Jorden and Wilma Mae Minor Jorden.

She had lived the greater part of her life in the Yorkville community and was of the Baptist faith. Janice was a devoted housewife and homemaker and was also a skilled carpenter who enjoyed building many things out of wood, including furniture. She loved fishing, camping, sewing, and crocheting, and she also had a green thumb and took great pride in caring for her plants and flowers.

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy Higgins and Bonita Penland.

Janice is survived by her husband, Benjamin L. Reed, Sr., whom she married March 16, 1974; two sons, Benjamin L. Reed, Jr. (Selena), and Paul Eric Reed (Melissa); grandchildren, Jorden R. Reed, Julianne Reed, and Jackson Reed; sister, Patricia Karen Reynolds; brother, James R. Jorden.

Funeral services for Janice will be held on Monday afternoon, March 16, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Roger Butler and Rev. Jerry Reeves officiating.

Janice’s family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
