Nearly a month later, still no sign of Barbara McCray

Where is Barbara McCray?

This is a question that despite tips coming into the Polk County Police, the promise of a reward, and multiple searches across Dug Down Mountain haven’t been able to answer, and investigators continue to ask for the public to help in the effort to find the 83-year-old who has been missing since July 31, 2021.

McCray, a dementia patient who is described as 4-foot-11 and 125 pounds, went missing on the evening of July 31, and a search began on the afternoon of August 1 around the area of her home.

Since then, volunteers and first responders have been all over the mountain area around her home. Helicopters and drones have flown over the area. Dogs have sniffed along trails and in hard to reach places. Police have used all-terrain vehicles to ride down railroad tracks and along the ditches of Highway 27 South.

And no sign of McCray has turned up in any of the searches so far.

On Monday, the PCPD reached out to the public again on Facebook with the following message:

We are once again posting this to keep her face on your timeline. Barbara McCray is 83 years old, and has been missing since July 31, 2021.

Our investigators have followed up on a copious amount of tips from our wonderful community, but have turned up nothing of investigatory value from these tips.

We encourage anyone with information to contact Detective Bowman (#810) at (678) 246-5107 or message our Facebook page!

The Criminal Investigations Division will continue to diligently work this case.

Please remember the family of Mrs. McCray in your thoughts & prayers.

The reward is worth $20,000 for those who are able to provide information that will give the family and law enforcement any clue as to where McCray might be.

Check back for more on the story when new information becomes available.

Have they used cadaver dogs to find her body? Sounds like an inside-job to me. The reward was offered WAY TOO QUICKLY and was WAY TOO MUCH TOO SOON. They knew she wouldn’t be found!
