A crew will be coming in March to start workin’ on the railroad crossings in Rockmart, and hopefully won’t take all the live-long day to complete the job ahead.

The City of Rockmart announced that crossings on Marble Street (at the intersection with College Street,) Piedmont Avenue and Old Cartersville Road crossings will see closures starting on March 16, and to continue for at least 24 to 48 hours per crossing.

Per city officials, the crossing work will not impact travelers being able to get around utilizing the Jones Street crossing until the work is done.

However, travelers around the city will be encouraged to use detour routes using Nathan Dean Parkway, Prospect Road and West Elm Street to get from downtown Rockmart back through to main arteries around the city until the work is complete. Additional routes will be available during the closure period.

Railroad crews previously completed work on the Highway 101 crossing at the industrial park last year amid construction work for a bridge replacement in the area.

Check back for updates on the closures as they become available and detours suggested by the city.

Shannon Goodson has been driving tow trucks for a long, long time. Nearly two decades of experience have given him about every chance to see vehicles stuck in strange places and simple jobs like hauling broken down wheels to the shop from a driveway.

Now he’s taking all that experience and going out on his own with the help of his family as he opened 4 Good Towing & Recovery for business in recent weeks.

Goodson, who with the help of his wife Lydia is operating the new business as a way to continue growing their family. She does a lot of the talking in the family, including about the couple’s goals for 4 Good Towing & Recovery.

“So 4 Good Towing was named naturally because we have 4 kids. Now that they are almost all grown we decided to raise something else, a business!” Lydia Goodson said. “We are building a future for our children and grandchild, one tow at a time.”

The duo has long been involved in the community in a variety of ways. Lydia continues her role at the Sheriff’s Office leading the Polk Re-Entry Program in the jail. Their kids have been involved in Rockmart sports, their time devoted to making the whole of Polk County a better place.

They hope the new business is among those opportunities to help the community with their services.
