Polk County Police are investigating a Saturday incident on Carlton Drive in Rockmart where a man was injured by gunfire.

Chief Kiki Evans confirmed that a man was injured and rushed to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center for Emergency surgery. He is recovering at this time, and police have yet to be able to question him for more information.

Per what is known so far, a two-year-old in the home was able to get ahold of a firearm and it discharged while they were holding it, striking the man with the accidental gunfire.

PCPD are not releasing further information at this time as the incident remains under investigation.
