PCSO: Two jailed after warrants served, attempt to hide suspect

Deputies found a man trying to hide from warrants under a pile of clothing, and charged him along with a woman who was attempting to help keep out of cuffs according to information from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday went to a Lewis Road residence in Cedartown to serve warrants against Michael Brandon McDowell, 36, for child support and failure to appear warrants. Per information from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to knock and smelled marijuana coming from inside, along with the smell of marijuana coming from within.

After knocking multiple times and getting on their patrol vehicle’s PA system to call McDowell out, deputies found the front door open and went inside to look for McDowell. They found Emily Hicks, 36, on a couch and after ordered out of the room claimed that no one else was there. Deputies instead found McDowell in a closet under a pile of clothing, and got him out at gunpoint.

McDowell was taken into custody without further incident. When questioned about the marijuana smell, Hicks claimed that she had smoked, but that McDowell wasn’t responsible for the marijuana.

Both were taken onward to the Polk County Jail without further incident for booking.

McDowell faced the charges for his warrants along with a new charge of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers and remained in custody as of this posting. His bond was set at $3,000.

Hicks was booked for a felony charge of hindering apprehension and remained in jail with a $1,000 bond set.
