CEDARTOWN — The Polk County Health Department will host a breast-cancer awareness event featuring free breast exams Tuesday, October 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the health department, 125 East Ware Street, Cedartown.

Interested women may walk in for service during these hours. Door prizes, activities, and gift bags will be provided.

From 2020 through 2024, there were 26 deaths in Polk County due to breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but early detection through regular screenings can save lives.

“We’re committed to making preventive care accessible to everyone,” says Malindy Ely, health department nurse manager. “This event removes financial barriers and empowers women to take charge of their health. Our healthcare professionals will provide clinical breast exams in a supportive, private environment.” Educational materials and resources on breast health and self-exams will also be available.
