Rickey Randall Abernathy, age 78, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Thursday morning, May 1, 2025.
Mr. Abernathy was born on October 21, 1946, son of the late Emory Wilson “Doc” Abernathy and Venus Otting Abernathy.
He had lived the greater part of his life in Cobb County and retired from SCMI Woodworking Machinery as an electronic engineer. Mr. Abernathy moved to Rockmart in 2021 and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
He loved everything electronics, computers and automotive. Mr. Abernathy enjoyed music, especially Southern Gospel music and adored his dog, Missy.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife, Nancy Ford Abernathy, whom he married March 26, 1971; daughters, Dawn Abernathy Parker (Todd), and Heather Abernathy Hogan (Erik); grandchildren, Steven Parker, Brennan Parker, Tehya Parker, Ashlyn Parker, Serena Parker, Ethan Hogan, and Hazel Hogan. Several beloved nieces and nephews also survive.

Celebration of Life services for Mr. Abernathy will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Purser and Rev. Ryan Williams officiating. Interment will follow in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Abernathy’s family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
Pallbearers will include Barry Davis, Jon Cook, Jeff Ellis, Brandon Owenby, Nathan Owenby, and Bobby Waldrop.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the New Prospect Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Abernathy.
Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of the arrangements for Mr. Rickey Randall Abernathy.
