Mr. Romie “Buck” Cook

Mr. Romie “Buck” Cook, age 83, of Cedartown passed away Monday, March 3, 2025.

Mr. Cook was born July 4, 1941, in Rome, Georgia, son of the late Romie J. Cook, Tessie Mae Brown Cook and Virginia Black. 

Buck had a lengthy career as a self-employed painter and wallpaper installer. In his spare time, he enjoyed carrying his daughters fishing.

He would always enjoy a great game of throwing horseshoes or playing pool. When he would relax, you could always find him watching a classic western movie. He was a loving and attentive father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

His presence in the lives of all who knew and loved him will be greatly missed. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook is preceded in death by his sisters: Sara Carver, Dorothy Adams, Mildred Cook, Jeanette Collins, Mary Ruth Beck, and Betty Gilmore; brothers: Jim Cook, Ervin Cook, and Bobby Cook.

Mr. Cook is survived by his children, Vickie Cook Kimsey (Ken Kimsey), Mindy Cook (Brad Thomas), and Tess Cook; grandson: Kenneth Kimsey; great-grand daughter, Katelynn Sarabeth Kimsey; special friend Sonia Gay along with her children and grandchildren: sister, Ruby Cox; brother, Rick Cook and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Funeral services to celebrate Buck’s life will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM, in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Brother Cliff Burnham officiating along with family members delivering eulogies. Interment will follow in Eastview Baptist Church Cemetery. 

Mr. Cook’s family will receive friends Wednesday evening, March 5, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Smith & Miller Funeral Home. 

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Brad Thomas, Jeremi Wester, Lee Pope, Tony Chafin, Jeremy Ruark, and James Ruark. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Zach Pope. 

The Smith and Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Romie “Buck” Cook.

Mr. Johnny “Mike” Whitfield

Mr. Johnny “Mike” Whitfield, age 77, of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026.  

He was born on March 27, 1948. He was the son of the late John Parker Whitfield and Edith Ann Whitfield Willingham. 

Mr. Whitfield is survived by his son, Brian Whitfield and several other extended family members. 

Mr. Whitfield is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Renee Willingham Whitfield and brother, Howard Glenn Whitfield. 

A graveside service for Mr. Whitfield will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 at two o’clock in the afternoon in the family lot in Polk Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Danny Tucker officiating.
