Mrs. Sandra Wood Ballard

Mrs. Sandra Wood Ballard, age 82, of Rockmart, GA passed away Friday, March 7, 2025.

She was born in Rockmart, GA on October 8, 1942 a daughter of the late Oliver Wood and Emma McMillan Wood.

She had lived all of her life in Rockmart and was a 1960 graduate of Rockmart High School where she was a member of the marching band. Mrs. Ballard was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church in Buchanan, GA but faithfully attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Vinson Mountain, Rockmart.

She worked at MuRata Electronics Distribution in Rockmart for 22 years and later worked for 18 years as the Food Service Director at the Rockmart Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Home.

She enjoyed thrifting, was an excellent cook, baked sweets, loved reading her Bible and loved her family.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Ballard was preceded in death by two brothers: Max Wood, Sr. and Douglas Wood; and the father of her three daughters, Billy Van Ballard.

She was a loving mother to Peggy (Buddy) Stephenson, Miranda (Ricky) Atkins and Lisa Michelle Ballard; eight grandchildren: Shane, Megan, Scott, Nicole, Justin, Dylan, Randy and Rhett; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Also surviving are brothers: Rogers (Nan) Wood, Donald (Belle) Wood; sisters: Shirley Wood Jones and Charlotte Wood Purser; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Parris officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the service hour at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial gifts be made to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Building Fund in Mrs. Ballard’s memory. Please send in care of Vickie Sigers, Church Treasurer, 1125 Pleasant Hill Road, Rockmart, GA 30153.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Sandra Wood Ballard.


Larry “Bushwacker” Brown


Obituaries

Mr. Larry “Bushwacker” Brown, age 66, of Cedartown, Georgia passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026.

Larry was born in Cedartown, Georgia, to the late J.C. Brown and Betty Garrett Brown, on August 15, 1959.

He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on. In his free time, he found joy in the simple things—riding the back roads, singing karaoke with friends, and spending time working on cars. He also had a love for music, often picking up a guitar and playing for those around him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Jimmy Brown; nephews, Kevin Brown and Kenneth Brown; long-time friend, Jerone Jackson.

Larry is survived by his children Keith Brown (Alisha), Daniel Brown (Lindsey Reece), and Jadya Brown; twelve grandchildren; brother, Terry Brown (Diane Glover); sister-in-law, Belinda Brown. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Services for Larry “Bushwacker” Brown will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Justin Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Union Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Piedmont, Alabama.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Smith & Miller Funeral Home.
