Theodocia Hunt “Docia” Thaxton

Mrs. Theodocia Hunt “Docia” Thaxton, age 78, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Friday morning, November 29, 2024.

Docia was born in Rome, GA, on June 12, 1946, a daughter of the late Charles Dodson Hunt and Sara Sessler Hunt.

She was a graduate of East Rome High School and attended Shorter College, West Georgia College and Jacksonville State University. Mrs. Thaxton had lived the greater part of her life in Rockmart and was a member of Piedmont Avenue Baptist Church.

She had worked with Polk School District for over 30 years, and prior to retirement was a teacher at Eastside Elementary School. Docia was a member of the Community Theatre, enjoyed reading and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

In addition to her parents, Docia was preceded in death on January 15, 2004, by her husband, James Aubrey “Orbie” Thaxton, whom she married on September 1, 1966, and a sister, Susie White.

Mrs. Thaxton is survived by two sons, Henry Ford “Hank” Thaxton, Sr., and Charles Aubrey “Chuck” (Michelle) Thaxton. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Memorial services for Docia will be held on Wednesday evening, December 4, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Bray officiating.

Mrs. Thaxton’s family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

Floyd Earl Anderson Jr.

Floyd Earl Anderson Jr., age 70, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Monday afternoon, January 19, 2026.

Mr. Anderson was born in Cedartown, Georgia, on December 27, 1955, a son of the late Floyd Anderson, Sr. and Dorothy Faye Milam Anderson.

He spent the greater part of his life in Rockmart and was of the Baptist faith. After 36 years of dedicated service, Mr. Anderson retired from Meggitt, where he was known for his strong work ethic and loyalty. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.  Above all, Mr. Anderson was a devoted family man who cherished time with those he loved. He had a deep love for music and found joy in playing the guitar, and in his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Anderson.

Mr. Anderson is survived by two sons, Jonathan (Cheri) Anderson, and Jesse (Jessica) Anderson; two sisters, Kathy (Larry) Grimes, and Vickie Polston; brother, Terry Shores. Eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Anderson will be held on Thursday afternoon, January 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores officiating.

Mr. Anderson’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
