Former President will return to office in January
The ballots are still being counted in some places around the country, but overall the night’s results sent a clear message from the American electorate: they want President Trump back in office.
The first president to win the office again for a second time since President Grover Cleveland in non-consecutive terms, Donald Trump secured enough electoral college votes overnight to win both that count and also the popular vote for the 2024 General Election.
He and his running mate Ohio Senator JD Vance will be taking office in January.
States that previously voted for the Democratic ticket in 2020 – Georgia, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania – flipped red four year later and provided the former President with the support he needed to win outright and avoid what many predicted was going to be a closer race, or even an Electoral College tie with Vice President Kamala Harris. He was trending to take Arizona, Michigan, and Nevada as well.
As of this morning, the projected Electoral College count put Trump at 277 to 224 (per the Associated Press) over Harris.
Paulding County was among the majority of the counties who overwhelmingly supported the former President in his campaign for a new term in office after being voted out in 2020.
President Biden will serve out the rest of his term until Inauguration Day on January 20, 2025.
