Ms. Velma Marie Beck

Ms. Velma Marie Beck, age 65,  passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

Ms. Beck was born October 6, 1958, daughter of the late Bobby Gene Blankenship, Sr. and Donis Bedford Blankenship. 

Ms. Beck was known for her sweet spirit and disposition. She was of the Christian faith and was a friend to everyone.

She was very talented and loved to draw. Ms. Beck was a cat lover and had a quirky sense of humor.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

In addition to her parents, Ms. Beck was preceded in death by a son, William Shane Beck; brother, Bobby Gene Blankenship, Jr.; and sister, Cathy Smith.

She is survived by her daughter, Jamie Beck Brady; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Kyle Blankenship; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Services to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, July 14, 2024, at 3:00 PM, in the Chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Roger Whorton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. 

Her family will receive friends also on Sunday, from 2:00 PM until the service hour, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nancy Ruth Gentry, age 78, of Adairsville, GA, passed away Monday evening, November 10, 2025.

Mrs. Gentry was born on December 26, 1946, to the late Otis Leman “Tobe” Grant and the late Lula Belle Edwards Grant.

Nancy’s working career included employment with Aragon Mills and Muzzy’s, and she later served as a medical technician at Renaissance Marquis before retiring. In her free time, she loved fishing, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, Phillips H. Gentry, her daughter, Phyllis Kaye Gentry; and her 3 brothers, Billy Grant, Jerry Grant, and Jimmy Grant.

She is survived by her daughters Hope Uitermark and Stacey (Brent) Ledford; her grandchildren, Celia (Doug) Hall, Wade (Renee) Ledford, Adam (Hayley) Bell, and Erin Bell; greatgrandchildren, Kipton Hall, Harper Hall, Ava Bell, Gunner Bell, Peyton Ledford, Stryker Lewis, Jackson Higdon, and Cooper Higdon; her sister, Joyce Ward; sister-in-law Joan Paulus; brother-in-law, Jackie (Shirley) Gentry; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Nancy will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Gentry and Rev. Jesse Starnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Taylorsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:00 noon until the service hour.

Pallbearers will include Brent Ledford, Wade Ledford, Adam Bell, Doug Hall, Kipton Hall, and Bobby Cartledge. Honorary pallbearers include Stryker Lewis, Gunner Bell, Ava Bell, Harper Hall, and Peyton Ledford.
