The time has come, the choice has been made. Now it is just a matter of counting the votes for the 2025 off-year local elections in Polk County, and for the Public Service Commission races statewide.

Elections results were available starting after 7 p.m. from the Board of Elections after they submitted their results from early voting tallies just moments after the polls closed this evening across the county.

Countywide, there were just three items on the ballot for 2025 since elections weren’t technically required for the Aragon City Council, Rockmart City Council and Cedartown City Commission this year. Candidates in those races were incumbents or newcomers who did not have challengers in their respective races.

That means that Jessica Payton, Sam Branch and Matt Foster all retain their seats for another four years on the Cedartown City Commission. Their names remained on the ballot thanks to the Redevelopment Powers referendum on the ballot for a second time in 2025.

Here’s a rundown of how the votes have turned out:

(Numbers updated as of 8:01 p.m. – per Secretary of State’s office – all precincts reported)

Aragon Council holding special called meeting on Thursday

The City of Aragon is planning on purchasing some new gear, if the City Council goes along with the plan.

Mayor Judd Fee reported that the city plans to hold a 4 p.m. special called session on Thursday, January 22, to decide on the purchase of two police vehicles and a used fire truck.

Fee reported that the truck in question is being purchased from the City of Braswell for a specific task, and not to fight fires.

Instead, it’ll be a truck utilized by Public Works for the high pressure water system on the truck to clear out drains and in other areas of use where a lot of water for specific tasks.

No additional agenda items are up for discussions or decision.

Check back for more on the purchases as the information becomes available.
