Mr. William “Bill” McCarty, age 85, of Rockmart, GA passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Bill was born in Doerun, GA on September 16, 1939, a son of the late William Tolly McCarty and Gladell Russell McCarty. He lived his childhood in Doerun where he was a graduate of Doerun High School.
Bill furthered his education and attended Berry College in Rome, GA and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia Southern University. After obtaining his degree from Georgia Southern, Bill then attended Southern Polytechnic State University.
He was an active member of Victory Baptist Church and was involved in RA’s and Awana and enjoyed being part of the Pinewood Derby Races. Bill enjoyed time on the lake fishing and gardening. He had a great love for his family and will be remembered as a good humble Christian man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe McCarty; nephews, Frankie McCarty, Stephen Johnson, and Jason Jolly; and nieces, Ginger Head and Kim Williams.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Polly Pinkard McCarty to whom he was married on May 18, 1985; three daughters, Julie (Mike) Crowe, Emily (Cody) Minter, and Lisa Ireland; six grandchildren, Amanda (Dennis) LaForce, Zachary (Jennifer) Nash, Caleb (Jocelyn) Crowe, Josh (Baylee) Crowe, Heath Minter, and Slade Minter; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jeannie (Ron) Cook; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jane McCarty, Jean and Phil Akins, Linda Williams, and Donna and WL Vinson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. McCarty will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Snapp officiating. Interment will follow in the Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, December 9, 2024 from 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will include Josh Crowe, Caleb Crowe, Zachary Nash, Russell Head, Devin Lester, and Cody Minter. Honorary pallbearers will include Daniel Head, Phil Akins, WL Vinson, Mike Crowe, Eddie Burnley, Reb Beck, Ron Cook, Todd Akins, and Scott Akins.
Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements for Mr. William “Bill” McCarty.
