The City of Aragon released a statement today announcing the termination of Police Chief Michael Evans officially on Monday, and that interim Chief Brad Loyd is back serving in the position he previously held.
Evans, who was appointed and won the job by council vote in 2019, is the latest chief to be terminated by the city in recent years. That included former Chief Paul Mazzuca, Chief Alison Taulbee, and Marc Riley, who served as an interim chief twice in recent years.
Per the city, Evans was fired for insubordination on November 2. He plans to appeal the termination, and an open board meeting is set to be scheduled on the matter but no date has yet been released.
Loyd’s return to duty as Police Chief came on October 30, per the city.
The city released the following statement on the matter:
“Michael Evans, former police chief for the City of Aragon was relieved of his duties on Monday, November 2. Mr. Evans has notified the City that he intends to appeal his termination, and that appeal is pending. The City looks forward to resolving his appeal and for both the City and Mr. Evans to put this issue behind them. Because this is an ongoing personnel matter, we cannot comment further at this time but we look forward to resolving all issues with Michael Evans.”
When sought for comment, Evans said that he felt he was unfairly terminated, has no marks on his personnel record in his three years of service as an officer with the city, and looks forward to the opportunity to have his appeal heard before the Aragon City Council in an open session, but did not wish to say anything further on the matter at this time.
Check back for additional details on when the meeting to determine the appeal for Evans is scheduled.
