Blackmon’s bond reduced following Monday hearing, now set at $100,000

A hearing held on Monday will provide Jimmy Brian Blackmon, accused of the murder of his wife Ginger in October 2020, the opportunity to get out of jail following a reduction of his bond.

Bond was initially set at $500,000 by Tallapoosa Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Meng Lim, and following an order signed this morning Blackmon’s bond will be reduced to $100,000.

Lim’s order does require Blackmon to wear an ankle monitor should he be able to cover the bond to get out of jail. It is likely so since the reduction would allow for the value of family property to put up as collateral for allowing Blackmon out of jail. He remained there as of this afternoon, according to information from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office jail information system.

The District Attorney’s office opposed bond during a two-day hearing when it was first set, and again during a hearing on Monday when the bond was reduced. Blackmon will be required to remain on an ankle monitor at his residence at 118 Rice Road in Rockmart, where it took place.

Along with that, he’ll also have to keep out of contact with several people within immediate and extended family.

Here’s a copy of today’s order:

Blackmon is accused in the shooting of his wife on October 18 at their home on Rice Road in Rockmart, and subsequently going on the run to avoid capture from law enforcement for more than a week, ultimately being found on property owned by his family in Carroll County. At one point during the search, Rockmart High and Middle Schools were placed on lockdown for fear he had returned to the area of his home just down the road from the combined campuses.

He was taken into custody and placed behind bars on October 26 on charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, cruelty to children in the third degree and influencing a witness.

Blackmon has been in jail for the past 79 days. His initial bond was set on December 17, 2020 for $500,000.
