Bond set today for Jimmy Blackmon on murder and additional charges

The legal proceedings in the State versus Jimmy Brian Blackmon took another step forward today as a bond hearing was held to determine whether he would be let out of jail or not on the charges he faces in the shooting death of his wife, Ginger Leanne Green Blackmon in October.

Superior Court Chief Judge Meng Lim set a bond for Blackmon of $500,000 on charges of murder, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, cruelty to children and influencing a witness.

He was still in jail as of this afternoon on the multiple felony charges.

Blackmon is charged in the shooting of his wife on October 18 at their home on Rice Road in Rockmart, and subsequently going on the run to avoid capture from law enforcement for more than a week, ultimately being found on property owned by his family in Carroll County. At one point during the search, Rockmart High and Middle Schools were placed on lockdown for fear he had returned to the area of his home just down the road from the combined campuses.

He was taken into custody and placed behind bars on October 26, and has remained at the Polk County Jail since for the past 53 days.

No additional information was immediately available about today’s proceedings, or his status in jail. Check back for updates when they become available.
