Polk County’s administration building and the Public Works facility are both closed today to allow for chemical smells to subside after being cleaned following exposure due to COVID-19, according to County Manager Matt Denton.
Denton said that an individual who has now learned they tested positive for COVID-19 went into both facilities late last week on a couple of occasions, potentially exposing staff at the facilities to the virus.
“We had the buildings disinfected on Sunday, and we have them closed again today to allow the odors to subside,” he said.
No further information about the shutdowns or the individual who has tested positive was immediately available at this time due to issues surrounding HIPAA.
Those who believe they might have been exposed to the virus during a visit to either facility are encouraged to get tested either in Floyd or Bartow counties as the Polk County Health Department remains closed until Wednesday for cleaning after two employees there tested positive for the virus.
Update: The health department is now back open ahead of schedule.
