Road name vote coming up before County Commission on Tuesday evening

How did a road in a subdivision end up with two different names?

The answer to that question isn’t 100% known according to Polk County’s building inspector Brian McCray, but he said the perfect time to fix to the problem and settle on one name for a street in a Rockmart-area subdivision.

McCray explained during the Polk County Commission’s review of their regular session agenda as their work session was coming to a close on Monday evening that when the roadway which will settle as McKelvey Circle was first proposed in 1972 in the planning of a subdivision off Cartersville Highway.

He explained to Commissioners as they were going over the agenda for Tuesday evening that at some point, East View Circle was being used as a street address for a few residences in the area as well. Permission to settle on the name of McKelvey Circle has also been obtained from the residents it will impact.

McCray explained that the change is needed ahead of plans from a new developer to build on the property, but did not provide further details about any proposed project at this time.

The issue didn’t come up prior to this point because residents in the area have been using post office boxes to receive mail instead of having direct delivery service at their homes.

The Polk County Board of Commissioners meet again online on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. to settle the naming of the roadway once and for all during their September 1 regular session.
