The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has decided to close off some of their public areas amid continued increases in COVID cases locally and specifically within their own organization.
Among the 10 employees who have tested positive for the virus is Sgt. Barry Henderson of the Gang Investigations Unit, who this morning is improving after being hooked up to a ventilator. Sheriff Johnny Moats said in a message this morning from Henderson’s wife that his oxygen levels immediately improved after his condition worsened due to symptoms of the virus.
Moats asked for continued prayers and support from the community in his road to recovery.
In the meantime, the Sheriff’s Office is taking into consideration the situation at hand and has decided that a “stronger stance against this virus” is needed and is asking everyone across Polk County to join in their efforts.
As part of that issue, the Sheriff’s office main lobby office will be closed to the general public, along with the satellite office at Rockmart City Hall. Courts and the bonding office will remain open, but everyone who enters will be required to maintain social distance and wear a mask.
Since the offices will be closed to the general public, those in need of help from administrative offices will be required to call 770-749-2900 to make an appointment.
In a posting earlier from the Sheriff’s Office, they also shared information about the effectiveness of mask use. Find that here at the CDC.
