Sheriff’s Office collecting supplies for Hurricane Laura victims in Louisiana

On the Texas border of Louisiana sits Beauregard Parrish, a spot near the Gulf Coast that was in the direct path of Hurricane Laura and now is one of many places devastated by the storm that needs your help.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is working with their counterparts in Floyd County to help Beauregard Parrish with supplies they need, and locals can drop off items daily from now through September 18.

“Several of our staff members have friends that are affected at this time. Many of you have already called and inquired about how you can help, so we wanted to send out this letter to help rally the troops,” the Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook.

The Sheriff’s Office is collecting items in Cedartown for those on the western side of the county, located near the intersection of the Highway 27 bypass and Highway 278. The Rockmart collection site is located at Tilley’s Home Furnishings at 966 Cedartown Hwy. Rockmart.

Those interested in making donations can bring them between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. – and after 4 p.m. at the bonding office at the Polk County Jail – through Sept. 18.

Supplies being sought for Beauregard Parrish residents include Bleach, Wipes, Water (Cases), Trash Bags, Dawn Soap, COVID 19 Masks, Bug Spray, Scrub Pads, Sponges, Gloves, Baby Supplies(food, formula, diapers and wipes) and Blue Tarps.

The Sheriff’s Office is also taking any kind of cleaning supplies when a group heads to Louisiana to make deliveries and help with cleanup efforts later this month.

Monetary donations are also being accepted. The cost of a bucket of cleaning supplies is typically averaged at $75, per the Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. Additionally, monetary donations are tax deductible.

“Thank you for your generosity and commitment to helping those in need,” the post added. “You are greatly appreciated! We are asking for everyone, their families, their church, their business to get involved to help show there is Love after Laura.”

Those who have questions can call the Sheriff’s Office at 770-749-2933.
