UPDATE: Suspect remains on the run following Sunday night shooting death, officials release victim’s name

Police are still searching for Jimmy Brian Blackmon this afternoon, and now believe he might be somewhere in the area around Highway 101 and Pleasant Valley Road, where he was last seen by his son.

Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd reported that Blackmon’s son, Corey Brian Blackmon, 21, was arrested overnight on charges of obstruction of law enforcement officers after he told police at first that he didn’t know his father’s whereabouts following the shooting death of Ginger Leanne Green Blackmon, 36, on Sunday night. However, police learned that his son was involved in getting his father out of his truck, and ultimately leaving him on the side of the road.

Blackmon, 50, remains at-large and is considered armed and dangerous at this time. Police reported that he was last seen by his son at 101 and Pleasant Valley Road, where he let his father out of his own truck.

The two met up at the East Rome Walmart on Highway 411 late Sunday night, where Blackmon left his 2015 GMC Sierra pickup truck that was later located by police. A truck driver parked nearby in the Walmart parking lot witnessed the father getting in the son’s truck reported the incident after he had heard about the shooting earlier in the evening on social media.

He is now believed to be on foot in the Floyd County area after police initially thought he fled to the Bartow County area. Officers have searched a nearby relative’s home and did not find any evidence that Blackmon was there.

Check back for more details as they become available from the Polk County Police.
