Note: This story and headline have been updated to correct an error made by myself on plans for the 911 Center’s name. It shall remain the same.

Family, friends and longtime coworkers of Crystal Vincent stood and applauded after a life lost too soon was honored by the Polk County Commission during their Tuesday meeting.

A unanimous vote concluded the process of honoring Vincent during Tuesday’s meeting, where a resolution was provided to Vincent’s family.

Vincent, who passed away in late January after an illness, served with Polk County 911 for decades and was instrumental in the two-year upgrade of the 911 radio system that now covers the entire county.

Commissioner Chuck Thaxton presented a formal resolution honoring Vincent’s contributions to Polk and her service to the community as the facility took on the her name.

“I would just say this: after working with Crystal for many years, she was a lifeline for us. She was always a great employee and a great 911 dispatcher,” Thaxton said after presenting the honors.

Her surviving husband Curtis and son Jayden accepted the honors on behalf of the family.

The 26 years Vincent spent in public service at 911, and was director of the agency from 2017 until her passing earlier this year.

The dedication received a round of applause from friends, family members and former coworkers.

A plaque will be going up at the 911 center to memorialize the life and career of Vincent.
