UPDATE: GBI provides more info on Officer-involved shooting reported on Pleasant Hill Road this afternoon

Update:

State investigators said a 63-year-old man was shot and injured by police when he tried to reach for a gun in his waistband early this afternoon during a domestic altercation, according to a release from the GBI.

The agency is investigating the 41st officer-involved shooting that sent Flint Dawson Warren to the hospital with serious injuries after being shot by a Polk County Police officer. Per the release, no officers were injured during the incident.

Warren was reported by witnesses to have reached for a gun in his waistband and was shot and injured by the officer around 1:15 p.m. this afternoon.

No word yet on Warrens’s immediate condition was available as of this posting. He was airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition.

The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Rockmart, Georgia. The Polk County Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on May 24, 2023. One man was shot and is being treated. No officers were injured.

Preliminary information indicates around 1:15 p.m., officers were sent to a domestic dispute.  The early investigation led officers to 1280 Pleasant Hill Road, Rockmart, GA.  The officers met with Flint Dawson Warren, age 63, of Rockmart, GA. Witnesses report that during the interaction, Warren reached for a gun that was on his waist.  An officer fired his gun, shooting Warren.  Warren was taken to the hospital in critical condition.  No officers were injured during the incident. 

The GBI will complete an independent investigation and once complete, the case will be given to the Polk County District Attorney’s Office for review. 

This is the 41st officer involved shooting the GBI has been asked to investigate in 2023.  The GBI has been asked to investigate 43 officer involved shootings in 2023.

A suspect was wounded after an domestic altercation turned into gunplay on Pleasant Hill Road today, according to Polk County Police.

Chief Kenny Dodd reported that a suspect was injured and has been airlifted for further treatment to an area hospital.

Full details about the incident weren’t immediately available, but Dodd said no officers were injured. It appear the shooting began when a domestic incident at an address on Pleasant Hill Road escalated and an officer shot the suspect.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called into take over the investigation of the incident.
