Brush fire breaks out in Hardin-Shiloh Road areas

Fire trucks are on scene and battling a brush fire that has shut down Highway 278 in the areas of Hardin and Shiloh Roads and M.C. Beck Road.

Polk County Fire Rescue Chief Mike Hanuscin confirmed that trucks are on the scene and have the blaze under control, but are awaiting assistance from Georgia Forestry Service to help create fire breaks and put out the flames.

Highway 278 is closed off to drivers in the area for the time being. A power outage for 112 customers is also underway in far western Polk County around the area.

Additional information to follow when it becomes available.

High winds, low humidity and an incoming storm system are elements combining to create conditions that are susceptible to fire at the moment. A Burn Ban for the day was put in effect by Polk County, Cedartown and Rockmart Fire Departments to avoid brush fires from potentially getting out of control.
