Cedartown Police got a lookout for a car last night that was believed to have a driver under the influence behind the wheel, and when officers finally spotted the car it gave chase which ultimately ended with two vehicles damaged and thankfully no one injured.
Randal Kyle Guttery, 55, of a Cedartown address, was arrested on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges by Cedartown Police on Tuesday night following a chase that began on South Main Street when his vehicle was spotted, and went all the way down Cason and Antioch Roads until he reached Tate Road and a dead end.
Per Cedartown Police, Guttery then turned into a driveway, drove around a large metal building behind a residence, and attempting to flee into a wooded area crashed his vehicle into a pine tree.
The tree fell on his car and onto one of several Cedartown Police and other patrol vehicles chasing him.
Guttery then attempted to flee on foot before he was brought to the ground by officers and taken into custody without further incident.
He was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Polk Medical Center to be checked out by medical personnel before he was taken onward to the Polk County Jail for booking.
Guttery remained in custody without bond set on multiple charges from the Cedartown Police to the chase. Those included felonies for reckless conduct, fleeing or attempting to elude police and driving while license suspended or revoked.
He also faces misdemeanor charges of failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, failure to use signal, improper left or right turn, reckless driving, DUI and speeding in excess of maximum limits.
Guttery was previously booked in mid-October for a DUI and for also driving while license suspended or revoked, both misdemeanor charges.
He remained in custody as of this posting.
