Keep an eye out on the skies, for rain expected to move through Polk County this evening and through tomorrow could turn to snow.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for showers that are expected around 3 p.m. will also bring with it winds and a drop in the temperature toward freezing during the overnight hours. Winds are predicted to be 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph through the evening with a 70% chance of precipitation.
However, the overnight forecast calls for more wet weather to turn into snow flurries, though it will likely be too warm for any accumulation to build up as a low of 35 is expected locally. A mix of rain and snow is also expected on Friday morning, but again no accumulation is expected at this time.
Winter weather is already starting in some parts of the state, mainly the northeast Georgia mountains and near the Tennessee line in Dade and Walker counties, where the forecast is colder.
