It wasn’t so much a love triangle as a love rectangle for one Polk County Sheriff’s Office jailer fired earlier this month now facing charges for his inappropriate contact with inmates.
The Polk County Sheriffs Office posted an item on social media today noting the booking of Jacob Lee Franklin, 18, of a Centre, Alabama address, who turned himself in this morning on three counts of improper sexual contact by employee in the second degree. The misdemeanor charges were filed against him after agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation concluded their look into the incident alleged following Franklin’s dismissal.
Per officials at the Sheriffs Office, Franklin was immediately fired on September 5 after a supervisor became aware that he had passed a note to an inmate with his phone number on it. After the incident, the GBI was called into further look into the details of what happened.
The investigation found that Franklin had told the same inmate he passed a note to that he was going to be conducting checks of cells around 5 a.m. on September 5 and never activated his body camera. He went to the cell and joined the inmate for an intimate session of kissing and fondling.
After the pair were done, two other inmates in the cell at the time were also given the opportunity to spend time with Franklin, which they took up.
Franklin had not yet been certified through the Basic Jail Officer Training program, so he will not be charged with violation of oath of office.
He will not likely face any further charges now the investigation is concluded, per officials.
