CHS Coach arrested on Thursday, bonded out

Contract rescinded in April 16 Special Session

Micah Philip Banks

Polk School District Police Department’s Chief on Thursday was credited for the booking of a Cedartown High School football and track coach who was charged with improper sexual contact, and later released on bond.

Micah Philip Banks, 27, of a Rome address and a former physical education teacher and coach at Cedartown High, was released on a $5,000 bond on the single felony charge on Thursday following his morning booking.

Banks served on the sidelines with the Bulldogs football squad in the fall and the track team in spring.

Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas provided Polk Today with the following statement about the matter:

“On April 14, Polk School District officials received allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student. In accordance with standard operating procedures, school officials immediately contacted law enforcement, and continues to cooperate fully in their investigation. The teacher is no longer employed with Polk School District. Because this is both a personnel matter and an ongoing investigation, Polk School District cannot provide further comment.”

The district has removed his profile from the CHS website, but as of two weeks ago it was still on the site:

Banks was the only educator during a Special Called Session of the Board of Education on Tuesday, April 16 to have his contract rescinded effective June 1, 2024, per this document posted on the PSD site:
